Create a colorful bookmark on the theme of reading! Winners will receive copies of their bookmark and a gift certificate to Books Again used bookstore!

Topic: Describe an adventure in your alternate dimension or parallel universe.

 

Contest Rules
Draw your own Dr. Seuss character and write a brief description of your character. All participants must be residents of Pueblo County.

Prizes
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Kindergarten, first grade, second grade, third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, middle school, and high school.
 

Awards Ceremony
Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Rawlings Library. Winning entries will be on display at the awards ceremony.
Auxiliary aides and interpreter services are available, with a one-week notice, to individuals with disabilities by calling 553- 0227.

Student Prompt: What can students your age do to promote patriotism and protect our great democracy?
Teacher Prompt: What can you do, both as a teacher and citizen, to promote patriotism and protect our great democracy?
 

The Pueblo Home of Heroes Association invites students in grades 4-12, as well as teachers, to enter an essay contest answering the above-mentioned prompts. 

Contest Rules:
300-500 words for grades 4-5
400-700 words for grades 6-8
500-1,000 words for grades 9-12, teacher category
Format: Provide 1 copy of entry with entry form stapled on top, left-hand corner.
All entries must be typed.

Judging:

Student Category
Pueblo Home of the Heroes Association Judging Committee will award first, second, and third place in each category, 4-5 grade, 6-8 grade and 9-12 grade. All participants will receive a certificate of participation. 

Teacher Category
Pueblo Home of the Heroes Association Judging Committee will award first place to three teachers in three different categories. One teacher will be selected from the elementary, middle and high school category.

Student:

1st Place $100

2nd Place $75

3rd Place $50

Teacher: Three winning teacher entries will each receive a $100 cash prize.

The Pueblo City-County Library District invites all teachers in Pueblo County to nominate the student in your classroom whose reading skills have shown the most improvement for a Most Improved Reader Award. 

The deadline for awards was May 3, 2024. PCCLD will facilitate awards after the deadline by creating and sending Most Improved Reader certificates.
 
If you would like someone to attend your awards ceremony but missed the deadline, please include your information and these requests will be considered on a case by case basis.
 
The Pueblo City-County Library District invites all teachers in Pueblo County to nominate the student in your classroom whose reading skills have shown the most improvement for a Most Improved Reader Award. This award is not for the best reader, but rather for the student who has really tried to learn to read better, and/or who through their own efforts has improved their reading skills greatly during the past year. Please select the student or students from your classroom whom you feel should receive this recognition.

Poets are invited to write a poem about any topic and written in any style.
Winners will be chosen from each grade level.
 
Contest Rules:
1. Limit of one poem per page.
2. Limit of three poems per contestant.
3. Participant must be a Pueblo County resident.

You are invited to write a mystery, suspenseful thriller or a humorous scary tale of a non-violent nature.
 
Contest Rules
1. Stories are 1,000 words or less, and should be typed.
2. One entry per person.
3. Entries will not be returned. Please be sure to make a copy for yourself.
4. Participants must be residents of Pueblo County.
5. Entries must contain the required information on front of this form.
 
Entries may be submitted in three convenient ways:

Teachers: Have an entire class participating? Email your class list complete with the required information to avoid certificate reprints!
