Contemporary Authors/Contemporary Literary Criticism - PCCLD has a limited amount
of user logins - if you can't get in, try Litfinder or Bloom's Literary Reference Online.
Contemporary Authors provides complete biographical and bibliographical information and references on more than 120,000 U.S. and international authors. Contemporary Literary Criticism is an extensive collection of critical essays on contemporary authors. Each entry contains a biographical/critical introduction, listing of principal works and sources for further study.
Learning Express Library
LearningExpress (Learn-a-Test) provides electronic books for: SAT, ASVAB, Postal Worker, Nursing Assistant, Resumes, etc.
Bloom's Literary Reference Online
Bloom's Literary Reference Online examines great writers, important works, memorable characters and influential movements and events in world literature. This resource features thousands of author biographies, a guide to more than 35,000 literary characters and information about literary works from poems to plays including criticism.
LitFinder
Litfinder is an online literary database that includes more than 126,500 full-text poems, 850,000 poem
citations and excerpts and thousands of full-text stories, essays, speeches and plays. International in scope, the database
covers all time periods and includes biographies, photographs and a glossary.
NetLibrary
Netlibrary is an internet-based electronic library that offers an easy-to-use system for accessing
the full text of online books that are called eBooks. You may view these items for 15 minutes or check items out for 3 weeks
by creating a Netlibrary account. These items are also listed in our online catalog and include Cliff's Notes and classic titles.
Next Good Book
Next Good Book lets you use the collective opinions of thousands of readers to find your next good book. You can create online bookshelves to keep track
of what you are reading and can choose to share your shelves with other readers. You can search for books by topic, look for similar titles to books
you’ve enjoyed and discuss books with other people by commenting on books you’ve read. You can even see who else is reading your favorite books and
then see what else they like to read.
NoveList Plus
Looking for the perfect book? Try NoveList Plus, an online database of over 200,000 fiction
and non-fiction titles and you'll never worry about how to find a great read again. You'll be able to find read-alikes for authors
and books you already enjoy, award winning books as well as book discussion guides for book groups. You can read reviews from
authoritative sources and get a list of titles in that series you've always wanted to read. There are 500 book discussion guides,
450 searchable book award lists, coverage of over 9000 fiction and nonfiction series, 25,000 first chapter excerpts and more. All
titles link to the library catalog and if PCCLD owns it, you can quickly place a hold on the title to be picked up at the branch nearest you.
NoveList K-8 Plus
Novelist K-8 Plus is a great way to help children locate age-appropriate fiction and nonfiction reading materials.
Kids can search by author, title, series, theme or topic. NoveList K-8 Plus features information on over 17,000 nonfiction titles
specifically chosen to support what kids are studying in school as well as to help them locate additional titles they will enjoy reading.
Online Book Clubs
Join our Online Books Clubs and each week, Monday through Friday, you will receive in your email a five-minute selection from a chapter
of a book. By the end of the week, you’ll have read 2-3 chapters. Every Monday we start a new book. You can share your thoughts and comments about books
with other readers at the Book Club Forum. Also, learn more about authors through AuthorBuzz, where you can meet 3 to 6 authors a week who each have
written special notes so you can get to know them and their novels in a very personal way. In each AuthorBuzz note will be invitations to join contests,
get free books or bookplates or bookmarks, read personal stories, and more.
World Cat
WorldCat is an online resource that lists the items that many US libraries own, like a giant online library catalog. Many records include cover art, tables of contents, review, excerpts and other descriptive information. Records typically include the names and locations of libraries that own the item.
