Homebound Volunteer

Position Description: 

In order to provide outreach services to Pueblo City-County Library customers unable to visit library facilities due to illness or disability, volunteers will deliver books and other library materials to individuals in nursing homes, senior retirement communities, and private homes. The specific time and day for the delivery are determined by mutual agreement between the volunteer and homebound customer.

Length of Commitment: 
6 months minimum
Time Involvement: 
1 ½ to 2 hours per month. This includes pick-up and delivery.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age
Enjoy meeting and visiting with people
Respect cultural diversity
Patience and flexibility
Valid Colorado Driver’s License and availability of personal vehicle with adequate insurance
Ensure customer confidentiality
Locate specific materials requested by customer or select materials based upon customers likes and dislikes
Use homebound customers library card to check out materials for homebound customer
Drive to patron's homes to deliver materials
Exchange current items for those borrowed the previous month
Return materials to any one of our library locations to be discharged
Keep record of dates and number of items dropped off and picked up from customer
Keep record of item titles so as not to check out the same materials twice
Orientation to the library including all applicable policies and procedures.
Attend an individual or small group orientation to learn about the homebound program and how to use the online catalog to look up materials.
