It’s that time of year again when you’re looking for things to do, and ways to get your kids to read when there’s no school. Fortunately, Summer Reading has begun! This year’s theme is ‘A Universe of Stories’ so our game boards and events are Space themed!
Summer Reading isn’t rocket science, it’s a way to get both you and your kids to read by winning prizes. This is a simple way to get free things, and a chance to attend free events between June 1st through August 10th. What could be better than free stuff, you ask? It’s getting your kids excited to read, and having chances to do things together as a family!
The way Summer Reading works is you sign both yourself up (we do encourage adults to participate, you don’t get off that easy) and your kids. You can do this online by clicking here or drop by any of our branches. Kids will track their progress through interactive Game Boards which are based on different age ranges (0-8 and 9-18). Kids will color in a different planet or alien for every 1 book, 30-50 pages or 30-50 minutes they read (depending on their age). Adults sadly don’t get to color anything, but you can still reach for the stars by listing 5 books you read during the Summer to be entered to win a grand prize, and you get a $5 coupon for the Books Again bookstore (you get three (3) entries - a total of 15 books during the summer - don’t fret, we have faith in you!).
Each board completed by kids 18 and under beams up an instant prize! The first board they turn in for both June and July is a book. The rest of the boards during the entire summer gets them a coupon to places around town. The only limitation is that no more than 5 boards may be turned in a day per child.
There are also Grand Prizes for all ages which are randomly generated toward the end of the summer! For kids under 13 there are gift certificates and birthday party packs for places around town, Teens 13-18 choose between different prize packs they could win, and adults have their own grand prize of a Samsung Tablet. Interested? I thought you might be! Visit our Summer Reading Program webpage to register online, view summer events for all ages, and download your boards to go “Infinity and Beyond!”
