PCCLD Imagination Chaper

Imagination Chapter Meeting

Saturdays, Oct 24, Nov 7, Nov 21, Noon - 2 p.m. Rawlings, Idea Factory
Imagine, create, tinker and share projects in this club that is part of the Global Imagination Foundation. One week we may build a city from cardboard, and the next we might learn how to make robots listen to our commands. Come to meetings every other week to join in on the fun!

It's amazing what we can make out of the simplest supplies!

This is the first year that we participated in the Global Cardboard Challenge, but our youth crafted some incredible things. They worked for two hours on their projects with little to no direction from adults, and when it came time to share their creations with the grown ups, the room was filled with everything from a Minecraft suit of armor to a duct tape wallet vending machine!  The construction was easy thanks to donations of building kits from Makedo as well as 3D printed supplemental tools. We had hinges, brackets and screws that helped our engineers create tangible representations of their ideas, and when creations were taken apart, those plastic pieces were set aside for next year's event.
We were so busy with the cardboard that we decided to wait until next meeting to explore all of the ways to use the donated Ozobots, so join us on October 24th for creative play with robotics!

Great turnout for first meeting!

We had a blast at our first Imagination Chapter meeting! We watched the Caine's Arcade video that inspired Imagination Foundation and the Global Cardboard challenge, and we talked about all that we can do in upcoming meetings. We decorated journals with all sorts of odds and ends that were in our tub of supplies. We will bring home the journals so that we can write down ideas whenever they come to us, and we will share ideas at each meeting. We brainstormed a list of materials to add to the supply cart (magnets, double-sided tape and more!), and then came the real fun: experimenting with Ozobots! We experimented with different patterns and shapes to see what rules the Ozobots had to abide by, and we learned a lot (turning your marker on its side makes the line thick enough; they can't travel on narrow turns). Then we looked at the guide from the Ozobots that gave us instructions on which patterns make them speed up, slow down, make a u-turn and more! The time flew by, so it's a good think that we'll be together again next Saturday for the Global Cardboard Challenge!
