Maker-in-Residence Program at the Idea Factory

The maker-in-residence program invites community members to use the Idea Factory to create a new project while sharing their creative ideas and skills with the greater community. Residencies are for a one-month period in which the maker will create a project in the Idea Factory, hold at least three open studio hours, and facilitate a two-hour workshop to teach related skills to the community. The finished work will be revealed to the public in a local gallery during the First Friday Art Walk and makers will be encouraged to present their project at a quarterly PechaKucha night. Makers will be given a $400 honorarium at the end of their residency period. Makers will be responsible for providing any additional materials needed for their project and workshop.

Project details

Makers will have access to the Idea Factory technology during scheduled closed studio hours. A list of available resources for your project is available here. At the end of the one-month residency, the finished project will be the property of PCCLD. If your project is temporal in nature (i.e. a performance), PCCLD will have the sole right to photograph or otherwise record your project. PCCLD may or may not decide to keep the finished project, return it to the maker, donate or sell the work. PCCLD will arrange to have the work displayed during the First Friday Art Walk at a local gallery or library location.

Workshop and open studio hours

Makers will be required to hold at least three open studio hours during the residency. During these times, the maker will be working on the project at the Idea Factory and community members will be invited to observe or ask questions of the maker. The maker will also hold one two-hour all-ages workshop to teach skills related to the project. The workshop will be free and open to the public.

Selection matrix

Makers will be selected by PCCLD staff on the following criteria: • Type of project/medium (to ensure diversity of projects) • Workshop learning objectives • Ability of maker to engage the community in the project
