Archaeology can be a particularly valuable tool for better understanding shadowed histories, like the internment of Japanese- Americans during World War II. Since 2006, the University of Denver Amache Project has been engaged in archaeological research at the Colorado internment camp of Amache, which was the state’s tenth largest city during World War II. Not only is archaeology revealing new insights about life in the camp, through this research, DU students and professors have become part of the community engaged in remembering and preserving this nationally significant site.
